The following are some of the points that every couple must consider before they decide to end their marriage:-
- To what extent have they tried to resolve their problems?
- Have they made any effort to identify and subsequently correct their respective shortcomings?
- Have they invoked the help of Allah by performing both wajib and sunnat prayers?
- To what extent has each party tried to overcome his or her inadequacies?
- Have they sought the advice, assistance and guidance of professional counsellors to resolve their problem?
Every available avenue towards saving the marriage should be explored by the couple, if only to show that there is still room in their hearts to forgive and forget and that the marriage has not broken down irretrievably.
